On March 2nd, in Sports History…

1927, Babe Ruth becomes baseball’s highest paid player at a salary of $70,000 per year.

1962, Wilt Chamberlain scores 100 points in an NBA game for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169–147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

1969, Phil Esposito becomes first NHL Player to score 100 points in a season.

1974, North Carolina overcomes a eight-point deficit in 17 seconds to force overtime against rival Duke in Chapel Hill.  Walter Davis led the charge in the days before the three point shot, which makes this comeback even more significant.  The Tar Heels went on to win by four in overtime.

1992, Ryne Sandberg becomes the highest paid player in baseball after signing an extension for $7.1 million per year.
