(LAKE BLUFF, IL January 9, 2025) Chicago sportscaster Les Grobstein will be the subject of a forthcoming book co-authored by Steve Leventhal of SRN Sports and the fan favorite’s sister, Holli Grobstein Levine.

Les Grobstein began his career as color commentator for Northwestern basketball in 1970, and then worked as an announcer for several sports teams and as a reporter for Sportsphone Chicago. His remarkable career included ten years as sports director of WLS 890-AM.

Grobstein famously recorded the obcenity-laced tirade by then Chicago Cubs manager Lee Elia in 1983. He also worked for sports/talk station WMVP 1000-AM from 1991 to 1997, and later joined The Score for the first time as a host and reporter. After three years away, he returned to the station as weeknight overnight host in 2009.

The book, to be published by Eckhartz Press in late spring or summer of 2025, will feature stories and recollections from fellow sportscasters, family and, and many listeners who adored the Chicago broadcast legend.

The cost of publication will be underwritten by a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe.

“I am especially excited to read stories about what Les meant to everyone, and share memories that people have never heard before. He always wanted to bring the sports stories to his fans. This book will be a fun labor of love,” said Levine.

“Les meant a lot to so many people. Whether they were my sports colleagues or the multitude of fans who were entertained by Les every night, it will be fun to see all these tales in one collection,” offered Leventhal.

Anyone who wishes to contribute content to the book can submit material via SRN’s web page on InternetFM at:
